1985 to 1995

THE decade from 1985 to 1995 saw Balkanyi's retirement from her work at les Jardins des Plantes. This gave her the time to create more complex and more experimental work. In La Patinoire and Les Guichet du Louvre she simplifies. In La Bourse, she experiments with collage. In the interior of the Bourse she manages complexity in a more formal way than she did 25 years before in Le Grand Magasin. We see these traits in her visits to the ports of Northern France, to Marrakesh, Istanbul and Italy. In the last two prints shown here, (La Cathèdrale de Pérouse and Puceswe see the continuing movement towards abstract compositions.
